How to read a signal
Every signal we surface carries two labels: how strong the evidence is, and where the trend sits in its attention cycle. Both travel with the signal, so you can weigh it yourself rather than take our word for it.
Signal and Confidence
Every item is labeled for evidence strength. Trending Topics carry a Signal rating; Narrative Shifts carry a Confidence rating. Same three bands across both:
- High - multiple corroborating sources, or one authoritative primary source (a regulator, an exchange, or the company itself).
- Moderate - credible but thinner: fewer sources, or some inference.
- Low - a real signal worth surfacing, but the evidence is limited. Treat it as a lead, not a finding.
When the evidence is thin, we say so. A Low signal labeled honestly is more useful than a confident claim that turns out to be noise.
Trajectory
The Trajectory label tells you where a trend sits in its attention cycle, from first signs to fading. It’s our read of direction, not a measured rate.

Single source
Where an item rests on a single uncorroborated source, it carries a Single source flag. Worth knowing about; confirm it independently before you publish on it.
